How to Convert PDF to JPG Images (All Pages or a Range)
Converting a PDF to images is quick, but two settings decide the result: the DPI, which sets the pixel size, and the page range, which sets how many files you get. Here is what each one does.
Choose JPG or PNG, set DPI and a page range, then press Convert to Images.
Convert PDF pages to images in six steps
- Open PDF to Images and drop your file on Drop a PDF here, or click the box and choose it.
- Under Output format pick JPG or PNG.
- Set Quality (JPG only, 30 to 100, starts at 90) and DPI (72 to 300, starts at 150).
- In Pages leave
allor type what you want, such as1-3or1,4,7-9. - Press Convert to Images. The status reads "Converting..." and then "Done! Your images are ready."
- Press Download Image if the result is a single picture, or Download ZIP for several. Files are named
page-1.jpg,page-2.jpgand so on, and the ZIP ispdf-images.zip.
What the DPI setting means in pixels
The tool draws each page at the resolution you choose, so DPI decides the pixel size of the image directly. Take a standard A4 page, which is about 8.27 by 11.69 inches:

Resolution costs memory. A 300 DPI page is four times the pixels of a 150 DPI page, so a long PDF at 300 can slow a phone or fail. If it does, convert fewer pages at a time using the page range box.
Jobs this is good for
- One slide as a picture. Export a single page of a deck, such as
5, and drop the image into a chat, a document or a post. - A preview of every page. Convert at 72 DPI to get small thumbnails that load fast on a web page or in a catalogue.
- A page you need to annotate. Many image editors open a JPG or PNG more easily than a PDF, so you can circle or highlight something and share the picture.
- Passing a document through a system that only accepts images. Some upload forms refuse PDF but take JPG.
As an illustration of size, a text-heavy page saved as PNG at 150 DPI can be a few hundred kilobytes, while a full-page photograph saved as JPG at quality 90 can easily be a megabyte or more. Your own files will vary, so check the file sizes in the ZIP before you share them.
JPG or PNG?
- JPG is smaller and the right choice for pages that contain photos. The quality slider controls the trade-off, and 90 is a safe default.
- PNG is lossless and keeps text and line art crisp, with larger files. Choose it for pages that are mostly text, diagrams or screenshots. The quality slider does not apply to PNG.
If a PNG batch turns out too heavy, convert it afterwards with PNG to JPG, or shrink JPG results with Compress JPG.
How the page box reads your input
The rules are simple but strict. The word all means every page. A single number selects one page. Two numbers joined by a hyphen select a range. You can mix them with commas, so 1,3,5-7 gives pages 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7. Numbers outside the document are ignored without a warning. If none of what you typed matches a real page, the tool shows "Something went wrong. Please check the page range and try again." A typed range such as 5-3 selects nothing, so write ranges from low to high.
What you get, and what you do not
The images are snapshots of how each page looks at that resolution. They are not the original pictures extracted from the PDF, and text in the image can no longer be selected. For a page with a photo this is a fine way to save a copy. If you need the exact original photo at its native size, set the DPI high, or ask the author for the source file.
Common problems
- The ZIP is huge. Lower the DPI or switch from PNG to JPG, then convert again.
- Only one image appears. That is expected when your range selected a single page. It downloads directly instead of as a ZIP.
- The file will not open. A damaged PDF, or one that asks for a password, cannot be rendered. Remove the password with Unlock PDF if you are allowed to.
